 The DanceSport WA Open is once again shaping up to be the highlight event of the year’s DanceSport calendar, this year held on the 16th of November at Curtin Stadium. Save the Date! All members are welcome to attend our feedback Forum with specific times allocated for Competitors, Coaches and Studios.  We would love you to come along and join us all.

Hints & Tips for Events

Before an Event
  • Renew DanceSport registration before the competition season commences.
  • Review the DanceSport WA Calendar of Events and diarise events you would like to compete at.  Keep reviewing as changes do happen.
  • When the screed is advertised, check the dances with your coaches and make sure you are ready with a fabulous routine.
  • Check the closing date! – Most promoters charge for late entry.
  • Enter via the DanceSport.org.au competition area – remember to pay for the individual events that you are interested in.
  • Find Competition (dancesport.org.au)
  • For costumes, please check the DanceSport rules as there are restrictions for some categories and age groups.
  • Once you have your costumes and shoes, practice at the Studio before the event and make any costume changes as required in good time.
  • Check the address of the event in advance and plan your journey.
  • Complete a checklist of all the tasks you need to do before the event. (hair, makeup, tanning, band aids, new lipstick, chocolate…)
  • Check if there is a back number deposit required- this is usually a cash deposit.

At an Event

  • Arive at least 1 hour before your event starts.
  • Collect your back number and pay a deposit if required (you may have more than one back number).
  • Listen to the announcements.
  • Use any general dance or pre-event start time to warm up.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Find out where the marshalling area is and report in usually 4 events prior to the one you are competing in
  • Follow Marshalls instructions for lining up and announcements to enter the floor.
  • For presentations in local competitions, please wait for your name to be called out and present with your partner to the front of the stage.
  • Photos are often taken of the finalists and winners, where possible please remain in costume.
  • For Open Finals in large events, couples may enter the floor via the stage and dance a single dance introduction.
  • For Open Finals in large events, presentations are often directly after the actual event; following the last dance, couples will be invited to congregate at the far end of the floor, before being invited to the stage end of the floor usually in reverse order.
  • For Open Finals in large events, an honours dance may be performed by the winning couple.
  • At the end of your events, please return your back number.
  • Don’t forget to take all your belongings home with you.
